Birth Doula

I have often been called a “Compassionate Type A”. That is because I don’t come from the typical background that many doulas do. I was in the beginning (and still am!) an accountant. What this means is that I work both from my heart and my head.  Everything I do comes from a place of Love and Understanding with a perspective on Honesty and Consistency. Before every birth I ask for the strength and knowledge to be the Doula my clients need.  To recognize that this is their birth not mine, and remind myself that I am there for them and only them regardless of what is going on around us.

I became a Doula because I want all women and families to feel empowered by their birth.  It is important to me that no matter how the birth happens, that you, as my client, feel that you are part of the decision-making process, and in the end have all the information you need to make informed decisions that you can be proud of.  I also want you to feel that you are loved and guided by someone who would not ever judge any decisions you make.  I am YOUR person - no matter what.

How I spend a typical day is how I work with all the families whom I support. For me, that is spent working, supporting my four children with whatever is on their plate that day and ensuring that my entire family feels loved and cared for. For Doula clients, it is the same. Whatever is on your plate, however you need to be supported, I ensure you and your family feel loved and cared for every step of the way.

I am a dedicated, compassionate individual who prides herself on supporting women and their family in labour to the best of my abilities. I may not always get it right the first time but I will always do my best to ensure everything I do impacts those around me positively. When I witness a woman realize that she DOES have the ability to birth her baby her way, despite what others may have been telling her, then I know my love and support has mattered - and these are my favourite moments.

“Being a single mom to be, I knew I wanted someone at my birth that could help advocate for me, keep me calm, and share in my experience. Deb is a very caring, supportive and calming soul. I'm a pretty shy person when meeting new people, but Deb felt like a friend from the start. She helped me through birthing my daughter, shared that special day with me, captured the first moments of my daughter’s life in photos, and provided me with a written "story of her birth". When I became pregnant with my son, I immediately felt at ease knowing that Deb would be there once again to share in my special day. I don't think she realizes how much she helped me that day. An uneventful induction quickly turned into an intense and speedy birth. In fact, he wasn't waiting for the doctor to arrive so the nurse delivered him. I couldn't have done it without Deb. Once again, she captured those precious first moments with my son. An experience that was very difficult physically, was made into a wonderful memory I will never forget. I am forever grateful!! The care and support of having a Doula before, during and after delivery is empowering." ~Katherine

“We're so thankful we had Deb with us through this experience. As first time parents, we were attracted to having someone we could trust to help navigate all the doctors, advice, etc.. When it came to the birth we can't imagine having done it without her. Deb did everything from knowing the right time to go to the hospital, she got us into the birthing unit emotionally and pretty much physically, she covered the nurse shift change when we arrived between shifts, set us up in the hot tub knowing that it would be tough at first but the right move long term, monitored fluids as the contractions continued, set the pace of the pushing and physically held up Dad when things got extra bumpy. Deb stayed close in the days that we spent in the hospital and helped us emotionally get our feet back under us in the weeks that followed. There are very few gifts in this life as precious as a Doula, I don't know where we would be today if we'd tried to do this without Deb.” ~Amanda, Jesse & Kailee
